Today, we celebrate the life of a great father.

We have a lot of young readers who frequent this website. So, if you haven’t heard the name Derek Redmond, then you likely haven’t heard of his father either. But, you deserve to know both. That’s where Sports Club Florida comes in. Too many young athletes feel alone when navigating a serious injury, and that feeling of despair that often accompanies it.

 

If that’s the case for you, allow me to introduce you to one of the most impactful father-son moments in sports history.

Mr. Jim Redmond, the proud father who helped his son finish a 400m semifinals race at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, on a torn hamstring, has passed away at the age 81.

 “We started his career together and we were going to finish it together.”
