Tua Tagovailoa is the present, and the future of the Miami Dolphins.

The brand new deal makes him the highest-paid player in franchise history and fifth highest in NFL history in average annual salary. In his news conference after practice, the fifth-year quarterback said he understands that with his new paycheck, there’s also the expectation of making deep postseason runs. Last season, Tua led the ‘Fin to their best regular season since 2008, an 11-win wild card playoff appearance. Head Coach Mike McDaniel described the pay day as “cool validation” of his star quarterback’s performance.

As the Dolphins prepare for the season, at a minimum they now know who will be behind center for week one.
