The Orlando Magic opened their home preseason schedule with a strong 120–104 win over the Miami Heat at the Kia Center. The victory kept Orlando undefeated through the preseason and highlighted the team’s depth and intensity against a short-handed Miami roster.
Without starters Paolo Banchero and Desmond Bane, the Magic still jumped out to a fast start. Wendell Carter Jr. was locked in from the opening tip, scoring 10 of Orlando’s first 12 points and finishing with 12 on 5-of-8 shooting. The team set the tone early, leading 37–32 after the first quarter and maintaining energy throughout the night with dominant rebounding and solid defense.
At halftime, the Magic held a 62–55 advantage behind their crisp ball movement and strong execution. Franz Wagner led the scoring effort with 17 points, five rebounds, and three assists in limited minutes. Second-year guard Jett Howard added 11 points, five rebounds, and four assists while hitting two three-pointers, showing poise and confidence on both ends of the floor.
Miami struggled to find offensive rhythm without Tyler Herro and Terry Rozier, both sitting out by coach’s decision. Rookie Kel’el Ware was a bright spot for the Heat with 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 14 points and two steals. Despite their effort, the Heat were outworked on the glass as Orlando collected 23 offensive rebounds compared to just four for Miami.
Orlando’s bench proved to be the difference. The second unit outscored Miami’s reserves 72–51, showing how deep this Magic roster has become. Anthony Black and Tristan da Silva provided key minutes off the bench, combining hustle plays with efficient shooting. The Magic also forced 15 Miami turnovers, turning them into 27 points, which reflected head coach Jamahl Mosley’s emphasis on defensive pressure and transition offense.
The Heat made a short run in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to single digits, but Orlando’s depth closed the door. Even without Banchero and Bane, the Magic played with clear chemistry and composure that suggested regular-season readiness.
After the game, Mosley praised the team’s effort and focus. “We want to see everyone play with purpose, whether it’s the first quarter or the final two minutes,” he said. “Our group understands that our identity is built on defense, rebounding, and energy, and tonight showed that.”
The win moved Orlando to 3–0 in preseason play as they continue to build momentum for the regular season. The Magic will face the New Orleans Pelicans next, while the Heat, now 0–4, return home to regroup for their remaining exhibition matchups.
