SO WHAT HAPPENEDDIA’S TWO CENTS

SO WHAT HAPPENED

Let’s set the scene: Florida Atlantic University is leading at halftime. In the third quarter, Owls redshirt junior Teja Young intercepted the Miners offense and returned it 72 yards for his second pick-six of the season. UTEP would respond, and the two team battled into the fourth quarter, with the Owl giving up the lead, 21-14.

A big-time pass from N’Koshi Perry to Austin Evans would put the Owl in position to tie the game. As usual, the special teams squad trotted out for the extra point attempt. That’s when the drama started.

Conference USA’s officials incorrectly gave FAU a second attempt at a game-tying extra point with 4:36 left, in the 4th quarter. According to NCAA regulations; the play should’ve been whistled dead, UTEP’s two points simply wiped off the board, and the game allowed to procced. In the end, the miscue wouldn’t be enough to spare the Owls from a 24-21 defeat in El Paso.

DIA’S TWO CENTS

Being a referee is an important job, and a difficult job.

Respectfully, if you’re not capable of doing your job, Walmart is always hiring. You can assist some someone with self check-out, or your can check my receipt at the door. Because, had this impacted the outcome of this game, we would have had a serious problem on our hands. Interfering with the outcome of the game, as a referee is unacceptable.

Rules are set in place for a reason.

The Owls return home next Saturday, for a Halloween-theme clash with UAB, scheduled for 7 p.m.
