HURRICANE HALEYA TEAM EFFORTSEASON FORECAST

HURRICANE HALEY

A career-high, 33-point performance by senior guard Haley Cavinder gave Miami their 86-82 victory over arch-rival Florida State at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Feb. 9.

Alongside her twin sister Hanna, Haley’s monster second half performance pulled Miami out of an 11-point deficit. This season, the Cavinder sister-sister connection has proven itself to be a secret weapon for Coach Katie Meier since their arrival from Fresno State. Haley Cavinder took a pass from Hanna Cavinder, knocked down a clutch three. Big plays like this one helped Miami pull within two, with 1:07 left in the third quarter. Haley Cavinder went on to finish the game connecting on 7 of her 10 shots from beyond the arc, and credited her sister’s timing with helping her find her stride in the second half when she scored 24 of her 33 points.

A TEAM EFFORT

Apart from Cavinder’s run, sophomores Jasmyne Roberts (19) and Ja’Leah Williams (14) and graduate student Destiny Harden (10) scored double-digits. Senior Lola Pendande helped the Hurricanes on the boards with nine rebounds. This is the Cane’s third top-25 victory of the season, and their third straight at home.

SEASON FORECAST

Miami Hurricanes got even with their in-state conference rivals, following Florida State’s ten-point win in Tallahassee, 85-92, earlier this season. At 8-5 in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play, the Canes are posed to make a run into the playoffs.
