Over the weekend, the Tigers and Knights battled in a furious offensive duel, with the final score being 35-28 in favor of the Knights. The game began quickly, with the Knights scoring on their opening drive. The drive consisted of nine (9) plays covering 78 yards and lasted only four minutes and eight seconds. RJ Harvey completed the drive with a touchdown run of 22 yards. Tigers got on the board with a 10 play 75-yard drive of their own that lasted four minutes and thirty-eight seconds. Things started to heat up during the tail end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second quarter as both teams intercepted passes from each other in a span of one minute and 36 seconds.
In the second quarter, the Knights distanced themselves from the Tigers with two touchdown drives to the Tigers’ one. Again, the Knights marched 89 yards down the field to score after running back Isaiah Bowser completed a four-yard pass to wide receiver Stephen Martin. The Tigers did not go down without a fight. Instead, they answered back with a quick three minute and five seconds scoring drive that was capped off by a one yard touchdown run from quarterback Seth Henigan. The Knights took a 21-14 lead into halftime when quarterback Mikey Keene threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Kobe Hudson on the ensuing possession.
The third quarter was all about defense as both teams struggled to put points on the board. Jevvon Duckett of the Tigers scored the only touchdown of the third quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run. In the fourth quarter, when the score was knotted 21-21, things became quite intriguing. The Knights were able to put away the Tigers by scoring two touchdowns while allowing only one for the Tigers.
We must present game balls to quarterback Mikey Keene, running back RJ Harvey, and wide receiver Kobe Hudson. As evidenced by their individual statistics, these men played with great effort. Keene completed 22 passes out of 28 attempts for 219 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. Harvey gained 151 yards on 17 carries and scored a touchdown. Hudson completed the game with six receptions for 85 yards and two touchdowns.
The Knights won the game by a final score of 35-28 and improved to 7-2 on the season with their second consecutive victory. The team will attempt to maintain their winning streak against conference rival Tulane Green Wave. Both teams hope to rise in the college football rankings with a victory. The Green Wave will be a tough test for the Knights as they have only lost one game this season. The Tulane Green Wave are currently ranked 19th in the nation.
