Fresh off a week riddled with rumors of veteran star wide-receiver Mike Evans leaving Tampa Bay in the coming season, the Bucs’ front office wasted no time in signing one of their most important weapons, inking a fresh deal with WR Mike Evans for 2 years/$52,000,000 with $35 million fully guaranteed.
This is HUGE news for Buccaneers’ fans for several reasons, most importantly that the need to re-sign QB Baker Mayfield will now be easier as Mayfield has made it clear he wants to not only remain a Buc but he also wants to continue throwing touchdowns to Evans in 2024.
Mike Evans will enter his 11th year with Tampa Bay, who drafted him with the seventh overall pick in the 2014 draft. Evans is almost universally considered the best offensive player in the Buccaneers’ history, notching at least 1000 yards in all ten of his professional seasons. 2023 was an incredibly productive season for Evans. In his first season with Baker Mayfield as his QB1, he amassed 1,255 yards on 79 catches, reaching the end zone 13 times which was only one score shy of his career best.
Tampa Bay fans are breathing alot easier with the news of Evans re-signing as he has been a fan favorite as well as an ideal ambassador for the sport in his decade long tenure. The team’s front office will almost assuredly now shift their focus to reaching a new deal with QB Baker Mayfield, which would be the next domino to fall in a so far busy offseason.
