Bucs reunited with former Super Bowl winner Whitehead!

More roster moves inbound today with the news that former Tampa Bay 2018 draft pick, Safety Jordan Whitehead has reunited with his former team after two full seasons with the New York Jets. The new term will cover two-years and pay $9,000,000 with an additional $1.5 million in incentives.

Whitehead returns to a defense that franchise tagged All-Pro Safety Antoine Winfield Jr. early on during the league off-season and will join Winfield as one of the most skilled secondaries in the NFC. The last time the two safeties played together, they utterly dominated Kansas City Chiefs’ Quarterback Patrick Mahomes & Andy Reid’s high-octane offense in Super Bowl LV.

Whitehead started every game during his two season hiatus with the Jets and notably intercepted Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen 3 times in a single game during the 2023 season opener. Jordan Whitehead is known as a highly skilled route tracker, box stuffing run defender, and disciplined blitzer who is expected to fall right back into place in Tampa Bay’s familiar defensive scheme.

The Buccaneers will have their hands full in the coming year, not only with a far superior schedule to 2023 in terms of difficulty, but also facing drastically different Divisional opponents’ rosters. The most notable of differences that will be facing the 1-2 punch of safeties will be the new-look Atlanta Falcons, who just added veteran QB Kirk Cousins and have a plethora of top draft picks to bolster their already talented skill positions. It will be an exciting match-up with Whitehead back in the mix.
