BARRETT ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

After nine seasons, championship-winning Buccaneer, and a newly signed Miami Dolphin, is calling it a career at 31 years old. This surprising news out of South Beach, marks the end of a fun era in Florida football.

In Tampa, Shaquill Barnett was an important piece of an all-time, great defensive unit. A career playmaker, Barnett came to the Bay quietly on a one-year free agency signing, before establishing his presence as a leader of an ascending squad of other playmakers. Alongside future hall of famers like N’damukong Suh, Lavonte David, Antoine Winfield Jr., Jason Pierre-Paul and all-stars like William Gholston, Devin White and Carlton Davis. In the second Super Bowl of his career, Barnett helped the best quarterback in the history of the National Football League win his finale championship, overcome his heir-apparent as the new best quarterback in the league. Joining a growing list of other well-known names to announce retirements ahead of this upcoming season, the conversation around his career turns from on field hero, to future honoree. A legacy solidified, Barnett has chosen to prioritize his young family, and his health.

Congratulations sir.
