Florida A&M University has dismissed Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tiffani-Dawn Sykes after less than two years in office.
FAMU’s sixth Athletic Director since 2010, has officially confirmed that she is no longer employed at FAMU, as of Aug. 13th. Closing the latest rollercoaster chapter of athletics at the state of Florida’s largest, and most prestigious historically Black college or university has come to an end in the most shocking ways possible. Sykes is the latest causality of the ongoing administrative scandal, which also resulted in the resignation of the President that brought her to Florida’s capital city. While the ongoing on-campus crisis had little to do with FAMU athletics, Sykes still remains one of the single most visible, polarizing and recognizable faces of the fallen administration.

A tireless, and energetic advocate for her Rattlers, Sykes oversaw one of the most successful chapters of FAMU athletics. Named the Women Leaders ‘2024 Nike Division I ‘FCS Executive of the Year‘, after the triumphant 2023-24 year, FAMU won SWAC Championships in tennis, baseball, women’s cross country, football, and women’s indoor track and field during her tenure. FAMU football and golf also won national championships during the 2023-2024 athletic year. In fact, just this week, Sykes joined colleagues in the unveiling of a new state-of-the-art putting room for the national champion golf program.
Florida A&M football is coming off one of their most historic seasons after finishing 12-1 for the second time in program history, winning their 16th HBCU National Championship and enter the season ranked 25th in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Preseason Top 25. Shocking developments out of Tallahassee, Florida. Sykes departs 11 days before FAMU football opens its 2024 football season at theMEAC/SWAC Challenge against Norfolk State in Atlanta.
