Despite outgaining UCF by a 452-333 margin, Georgia Tech football was unable to overcome early miscues and red-zone misses, falling 27-10 to the Knights at FBC Mortgage Stadium on Saturday. This was coach Gus Malzahn’s first victory over the Yellow Jackets (1-3, 0-1 ACC) since his first meeting with the ‘Ramblin Recks.

UCF’s first drive lasted nearly 10 minutes, as the Knights ran the ball on 17 of their 20 plays. Despite a poor passing performance by John Rhys Plumlee (8-of-16, 49 yards, 1 interception), the quarterback was effective as a runner, carrying the ball 16 times for 100 yards and 1 touchdown.

The Georgia Tech Quarterback Jeff Sims completed 21 of 32 passes for 314 yards and a 59-yard touchdown pass to Malachi Carter. Hassan Hall rushed for 54 yards in addition to Nate McCollum (51) and Carter (89) combining for 140 receiving yards in the defeat.

With 10:37 remaining in the fourth quarter, John Rhys Plumlee ran 28 yards for the score, making it a two-score game and sealing the deal for the Knights. This game was won by two things for the Knights; Plumlee QB rushing yards, and UCF defense that showed up when it mattered for the game.

The Knights will see the SMU Mustangs on October 1st at the FBC Mortgage Stadium next.
