Much of life is like a coin.

Life is largely trying to control what we can, and hoping for the best with the rest. Florida Agriculture & Mechanical University is learning that lesson the hard way. On one side of the coin, FAMU’s football program is trending upward. Following the announcement of an exclusive partnership with Lebron James, last year’s FCS Playoff berth, and the news of FAMU’s latest NFL Draft standout Markquese Bell‘s signing with the Dallas Cowboys.

Most qualified opinions from around HBCU football anticipate that this will be the season that Head Coach Willie Simmons, going into his sixth year at the helm, finally puts all the pieces together for the resurgent Rattlers. He has a talented, young quarterback in graduate transfer Jeremy Moussa; and key starters returning from last year’s roster Senior Cameron Covin, and leaders of the defense, Orlando star B.J. Bohler, and Isaiah Land.

Playing for us, not them.

On the other side of the coin, we have. Despite a worsening crisis in Tallahassee, enabled by the very officials who accompanied the team to Chapel Hill; FAMU Football shocked many with a spirited performance.

According to HBCU Sports, The university currently employs Michael Smith as interim athletic director since it parted ways with Kortne Gosha in April.

Nearly 90 players penned a blistering letter to school president Larry Robinson on Sunday, a day after the team lost 56-24 to the Tar Heels while playing without 26 ineligible players. Read the seven-page letter, as contributed by Randi Atwood of the Tallahassee Democrat, below:

FAMU was paid $450,000 to make the trip to Chapel Hill.
