Orlando City SC was seen to be more brutal as they racked up 6 yellow cards but were careful enough not to get a red card as it would put them at a disadvantage. The goalkeeper has to be given credit where it is due. The goalie of Orlando City SC saved 5 goals and kept Orlando City SC in the game. The first half was absolutely dominated by Columbus Crew as they scored one goal in that half and became 1-0. Orlando City SC was now seeming closer and closer to being eliminated and their chances of getting a place in the playoff berth seemed dull. However, when the second half began the intent of the players changed, it looked like the coach’s halftime pep talk worked for Orlando City SC.
The players showed dedication and it could be seen that they meant to win the match as it was a do or die for them. They finally scored a goal in the 56th minute. Júnior Urso (Orlando City SC) made a right-footed shot from outside the box to the bottom right corner that was assisted by Mauricio Pereyra. After this goal attempts at goals and tackles as well increased from both sides because whoever won this match would have secured their position in the playoff berth. In the final 10 minutes, Orlando City SC starts pushing the ball into the opponent’s half and putting pressure on them. They were hoping to either score a goal through their own push or make sure the opponent makes a mistake and then they stump their mistakes. Well, that is exactly what happened.
Columbus Crew’s player Milos Degenek was the victim of the mistake as he caused the only handball of the match. Unlucky for him that was right inside the D of their half. Orlando City got a penalty and Facundo Torres came up to take it. He did exactly what was expected of him, he converted the penalty and gave Orlando City SC the lead.
Winning only 13, losing 14, and drawing 6 games. Orlando City SC had to win their 14th game in order to qualify for the playoff berth. They struggled for the entire season with only two of their players stepping up on various occasions. Our Orlando City SC is back to playoffs!
