No. 4 Clemson Tigers came into Doak Campbell Stadium to face off against the Florida State Seminoles. This was an opportunity for FSU to make a statement against their ACC foe, in which they have lost 6 meetings. The Seminoles would march down the field immediately, and cap off a strong drive with a 20 Yard Touchdown run by Jordan Travis. Clemson responded with a 59-yard dart from DJ Uiagalelei, and went on to outscore FSU 17-7, closing out the half with a 24-7 lead and momentum going into halftime.
The Clemon Tigers opened up the 2nd half with a flurry of big plays and quick strikes to score 10 points to take control of the game. FSU did not go down, they rallied a strong comeback outscoring Clemson 14-0 in the 4th quarter, but wasn’t enough as they lost the last onside kick in the final 2 minutes, removing any chance of victory.
FSU Coach Norvell has said all season his team needs to win the turnover battle for the Seminoles to have a chance to knock off the top teams in the ACC. Turnovers and a struggling rushing defense were the issue in this game.
“The kick return coming out of half, quick touchdown. And then obviously being aggressive, trying to provide a spark. We didn’t get the fake punt and led to another short field with that. Just the things that we were executing well, just had a couple of mishaps and big swing in the game.” – Coach Norvell
Clemson defeated Florida State 34-28 Saturday night at FSU’s Doak Campbell Stadium.
