After a hellish six-game stretch, featuring only a single home court defense, the Orlando Magic celebrate tonight for the first time this season, overcoming the visiting Charlotte Hornets, 113-93.
FREE AT LAST
Earlier today, I was talking to a winless Los Angeles Lakers fan, and I’m only mentioning that because we no longer have that in common. Can’t relate. A new starting line-up featuring Bol Bol, made necessary by injury trouble, worked beautifully all night. That said, Mo Bamba and Paolo is such a fun combo to watch.
Truthfully, the final score gap could’ve have been much wide, but this mysterious 3-point slump continues to haunt Orlando. Wide open looks bouncing off the rims was a consistent feature throughout the game. Unfortunately, the Magic are still wasting too many scoring opportunities. This is a good team, but not good enough to leave points on the floor, as we’ve seen this season.
A Message to Our Point Guard
Dear RJ, we see you!
This is your time to shine. Many of the best moments that my generation of Orlando Magic fans witnessed involved an underappreciate, and underrecognized man named Jameer Nelson. Without Nelson, the peak of Dwight Howard’s character would have looked very different. Now, we have another young star who can do a lot of his team, and can’t do everything.

THANKS COACH
Respect to former Orlando Head Coach Steve Clifford.
Orlando’s best coach since Stan Van Gundy, led a LaMelo-less Charlotte Hornet team into the Amway Center, and stood on business. Under Coach Cliff, Orlando ended our post-Dwight playoff drought, won the division, and went to our first playoff game since 2012. His time here was , and his decision to make way for the rebuild that followed, helped lay the foundation for all the success this young Orlando Magic is going to have in the near future.
In fact, this squad’s first win of the season, coming against the teacher that taught this city what it felt like to win again, is almost too poetic for me to bare. So, from all of us that appreciate what you’d done: Thanks Coach.
NEXT: Orlando Magic visit the Dallas Mavericks (2-3), on October 30th.
