FAMU celebrated its second-straight Florida Classic victory on Saturday, defeating the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats, 41-20 in Orlando.
AIR IT OUT
Quarterback Jeremy Moussa showed up in the most important game of his season, leading FAMU’s passing attack with 195 yards through the air, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. In a surprising plot twist, ‘The Moose’ even shocked the world, and caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from his favorite target this season.
In his final Florida Classic, game MVP Xavier Smith threw his first career touchdown on a 24-yard double pass from Moussa to Smith, then Smith to Moussa. For the record, that’s the first time in program history that two players threw a touchdown to each other in the same game.
NO LAND, BUT NO PROBLEMS
FAMU’s prolific defensive front was without several starters, including senior standout Isaiah Land for the last game of the season. A freshman from Sanford named Anthony Dunn Jr., (Seminole HS) stepped up in Land’s absence, recording six tackles, four tackles for losses, three sacks, one forced fumble, and one recovered fumble. Isaiah Major added eight tackles, three tackles for losses, and three sacks.
Redshirt junior Javan Morgan (Florida HS) had five tackles, one interception, and two pass breakups in the winning effort. In post-game remarks, Coach Willie Simmons confirmed that Land had reaggravated a knee injury from Week Six (vs. South Caroline State), and was held out to avoid worsening it.
We hope Isaiah has speedy recovery, and congratulations to the FAMU Rattlers on a great season.
