The Florida State Seminoles will take on the LSU Tigers at Camping World Stadium in Orlando on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2023.
The upcoming contest will be the fourth occasion in a sequence of noticeable games that are being held in Orlando, as part of the union between Florida Citrus Sports and ESPN Events. Camping World Stadium has previously been the site of the kickoff games in 2016, 2018, and 2019, such as the confrontation between Florida State and Ole Miss on Labor Day 2016.
Steve Hogan, CEO of Florida Citrus Sports, expressed his enthusiasm for bringing another exciting game to Orlando, saying that they are looking forward to hosting college football fans from everywhere for this extraordinary game. He went on to say that events such as this one have a significant effect on the Central Florida area, and that they are eager to demonstrate to the student-athletes, coaches, families and supporters of the longtime partners in Tallahassee and Baton Rouge what puts Orlando in the company of the country’s top neutral-site locations.
Since the 1991 meeting, the Tigers and Seminoles have not faced off on the football field. The series, which started in 1968, has Florida State ahead with a 7-2 overall record. In addition to their 2022 reunion in Orlando, the teams will also play a kickoff game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

The LSU Tigers recently earned their fourth national championship by outplaying Clemson in the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship. Although they have taken part in five bowl appearances in Orlando, with two of them being the Citrus Bowl victories against Louisville (2017) and Wake Forest (1979), their overall record is 2-3.
Charlie McClendon, a former head coach at LSU, was appointed to the role of executive director for Florida Citrus Sports after the 1979 game and remained in that position for two years.

He noted that taking on a powerhouse like the Seminoles is thrilling and that playing in New Orleans and Orlando will provide a great platform for the Tigers to show potential recruits what their program has to offer.
The Seminoles boast an impressive 9-0-2 record in 11 games played in Orlando, including neutral-site wins against Memphis, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Duke, and Wake Forest between the years 1990 and 1996.
In 1952, the Seminoles of Florida State ventured to Central Florida for the first time and the result of the game was a 6-6 tie with the Tangerine Bowl’s defending champion, Stetson. FSU’s first bowl game in Orlando was a triumph over Texas Tech in 1977’s Tangerine Bowl. Additionally, Florida State and Georgia tied 17-17 in their only other game at what is now the Vrbo Citrus Bowl in 1984. Lastly, the ‘Noles won two consecutive Champs Sports Bowls in 2008 and 2011 respectively, beating Wisconsin and Notre Dame.
