The UCF Knights opened their Big 12 campaign in resounding fashion, delivering a crushing blowout victory over the Kent State Golden Flashes with a final score of 56-6. The Knights, formerly of the American Athletic Conference (AAC), sent a clear message to their new conference rivals in their first game of the season.

From the opening drive, it was evident that the Knights’ offense was operating at peak efficiency. A 12-play, 75-yard series set the tone, culminating in a pinpoint touchdown pass from quarterback John Plumlee to wide receiver Xavier Townsend. The Knights’ offense would continue to roll throughout the game, leaving Kent State’s defense struggling to contain their relentless attack.

By halftime, the Knights had already amassed a commanding 28-3 lead, showcasing their prowess on both sides of the ball. Quarterback John Plumlee had a standout performance, throwing for three touchdowns and adding one rushing touchdown to his tally. Plumlee was remarkably efficient, completing 22 of his 30 passing attempts, consistently finding his targets with precision.

The Knights’ ground game was equally formidable, amassing a staggering 389 rushing yards on the day. Leading the charge was running back Jonny Richardson, who churned out a game-high 100 yards on the ground. The Knights’ ability to mix their passing and rushing attacks kept the Golden Flashes’ defense on their heels throughout the contest.

Defensively, the Knights displayed unyielding dominance, refusing to allow Kent State into the end zone throughout the game. The Golden Flashes managed only two field goals, a testament to the Knights’ relentless pursuit of perfection on both sides of the ball.

With this emphatic victory, the Knights have set the bar high for their inaugural season in the Big 12, making a statement that they are a force to be reckoned with. Kent State, coming off a 5-7 season last year, had hopes of a resurgence, but the Knights had different plans.

Looking ahead, the Knights are set to take their talents to Albertsons Stadium as they prepare to face the Boise State Broncos on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 7:00 PM. The Knights head into this matchup as the favored team, while the Broncos are coming off a disappointing loss to the Washington Huskies. The Knights will be eager to maintain their winning momentum and continue their quest for dominance in their new conference. If their performance against Kent State is any indication, the Knights are poised for an exciting season ahead in the Big 12.
