Amidst a flurry of high-profile roster moves such as re-signing Baker Mayfield and other key free agents, the Buccaneers third string signal caller wasn’t exactly front and center among the headlines. It was, however, a priority for GM Jason Licht to maintain the veteran presence headed into 2024.
Jason Licht even managed to go viral at the expense of NFL media types albeit in a playful almost endearing exchange on “X” (formerly Twitter). As more signings around the league happened, Licht poked fun at well known NFL insider Adam Schefter, claiming to have a “source” that the backup QB would be signed in Tampa before Schefter (usually the first on alot of headlines) was able. NFL Network’s Ian Rappaport even got in on the fun, responding “Who is the source?”, which garnered plenty of chuckles.
Bucs have agreed to terms with John Wolford, per source. @FifthThird

Wolford, like alot of this offseason’s reacquired and newly signed players, will play on a one year deal. Wolford re-signing with the Bucs gives the Quarterback room continuity, as he was a vital part of both Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask’s growth over the 2023 season.
Wolford won a Super Bowl ring with the Rams in 2021, backing up Matt Stafford and also has the advantage of having played 3 years under Buccaneers’ new Offensive Coordinator Liam Coen.
