UCF Knights Men’s Basketball Team announced Monday an important addition to their coaching staff, hiring former L.A Clippers player development coach Carlos Dotson as their new assistant coach.

Knights head coach Johnny Dawkins welcomes Dotson’s arrival at UCF with open arms. He believes Dotson’s vast basketball knowledge and experience working with NBA players will help their players unlock their full potential.

“We’re excited to add Carlos to our staff. He’s young, hungry, and will bring a lot of energy to our team,” Dawkins said in a statement. “He is great at scouting and has a great knowledge of the defensive side of the ball.

“He has a lot of experience working with NBA players and we’re looking forward to him helping our athletes grow and giving them the tools to take their game to the next level,” He added.

Dotson, who played professional basketball overseas (France, Portugal, and Uruguay) before he landed a job with the Clippers as their developmental coach, said joining UCF coaching staff is an opportunity to grow and help the program reach new heights in the coming season.

“I’m very excited to join this staff and to get to work for Coach Dawkins,” Dotson said in the press release. “I think this will be a great opportunity to come in and learn from the staff and to continue to build something great here at UCF. I’m ready to get to work.”

UCF’s hiring of Dotson as their new assistant/ player development coach has received vote of confidence from the people he worked with, including Clippers head coach Tyron Lue and stars Paul George and Russell Westbrook.

“Carlos brought great energy and consistency around the building every day. UCF will have a great coach and an even better person. [I’m] looking forward to great things from him,” Westbrook said of Dotson.

UCF Knights will kick off its second season in the Big 12 this November after putting up a decent debut run in the conference and making it in the NIT tourney.
