Since their entry into the Southwestern Athletic Conference in 2021, the Florida A&M team, currently ranked 18th in the FCS coaches poll, has dominated the conference, securing 12 consecutive wins and boasting an impressive 19-2 record in total SWAC games.
The game’s early stages saw Jace Wilson connecting with Jyrin Johnson for a 7-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Later in the second quarter, Wilson found Trenton Leary for a 4-yard scoring strike, giving Texas Southern (2-5, 1-3) a 14-0 lead with 6:07 left in the second quarter.
However, Jeremy Moussa’s Florida A&M team struck back before halftime. Moussa orchestrated a 65-yard, 13-play drive that concluded with a 58-yard touchdown pass to Jamari Gassett. In the third quarter, Moussa himself rushed for a one-yard touchdown, further closing the gap.
The tide turned when Kelvin Dean scored a 49-yard touchdown for the Rattlers after Texas State struggled to make any significant plays. Moussa extended the lead with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Kareem Burke, making it 28-14 at the start of the fourth quarter.
Jeremy Moussa completed 17 of 32 passes for 180 yards but did throw one interception. Kelvin Dean carried the ball for 89 yards on nine runs. On the opposing side, Jace Wilson completed 16 of 29 passes for 178 yards, securing three touchdowns and one interception for Texas State. LaDarius Owens impressively rushed for 128 yards on 19 carries.
Next Up is Praire View and with performances like this I don’t think the FAMU staff should be to worried about a win here to clinch the title spot.
