CELEBRATING LEGACY AND LIFE

According to the Buccaneers, the Pro Football Hall of Fame will posthumously recognize the late Coach Kiffin’s legacy and contributions to the sport in June.

In the meanwhile, tributes and memorials have poured in from across the football landscape. Over the course of his storied coaching career, the elder Kiffin has enjoyed stints at six different college programs, and ten professional teams. In addition to building Tampa Bay into the defensive powerhouse, the elder Kiffin made an impact on other teams across the state of Florida. Arriving in Jacksonville in 2016, the offering his expertise to a former assistant. One notable, and consistent aspect of the late Kiffin’s legacy was the man’s uncanny humility. As a mythical figure, Coach Kiffin only served as a head coach once in a career spanning over fifty years.

After his stint in Duval County, the elder Kiffin would join his son, Lane, at Florida Atlantic University. Under the Kiffins, the Owls enjoyed an 11–3 season, was the first season over .500 for the FAU Owls since 2008, and the first time they have achieved over ten wins while competing at Division 1 football. The 2017 FAU football season is only the 4th time in school history they had a winning record in Division 1 football. After his son’s departure from Boca, the elder Kiffin would return with him to Oxford, Mississippi, surrounded by his loving family for the remainder of his days.

Coach Monte George Kiffin was 84 years old.
