NBA writer Bennett Durando of the Denver Post has suggested that Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat is one of the names that the Denver Nuggets might want to explore as the trade deadline approaches.

Butler, 35, has emerged as an intriguing trade candidate for contending teams because of his all-around skills and reputation as a clutch performer in high-leverage games.

The Nuggets sit at the No.4 spot in the Western Conference with a 28-18 record. However, despite their solid position in the standings, Duranda pointed out the need to flank stars Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray with another proven scorer for more offensive firepower.

He saw Butler as an interesting trade target for the Nuggets, though he also mentioned several names, such as Zach Lavine of the Chicago Bulls.

“Jimmy Butler is the biggest name and certainly the loudest personality on the market this season, but while his saga has reached a stalemate in Miami, LaVine has quietly emerged as the best basketball player up for grabs.”

The All-Star wingman has expressed his desire to be traded elsewhere after not agreeing on a new contract with the Heat last summer.

His discontentment with the Heat’s inability to work out a trade that would send him to a contender, preferably the Phoenix Suns, has exacerbated the situation, which saw him being slapped with team suspension more than once for actions detrimental to the team.
