UCF football coach Scott Frost is pleased with the outcome of the recent transfer portal acquisitions, as the Knights added 31 new players to their roster. Frost, along with general manager Trent Mossbrucker, worked together to bring in a mix of experienced transfers and incoming freshmen signees.
With only a two-week window to make moves this year, the process was fast-paced and intense. However, both Frost and Mossbrucker are happy with the results. They were looking for older, more experienced players with strong character and a proven track record of success on the field.
One standout addition is former James Madison quarterback Alonza Barnett III, who led his team to a 12-2 record and a spot in the College Football Playoff. Frost is excited about Barnett’s leadership and toughness, describing him as a proven winner. This is especially important for UCF, as they lost all five of their roster quarterbacks from last year.
In addition to Barnett, UCF also added two other transfer quarterbacks, senior Keyone Jenkins from FIU and redshirt-freshman Kaleb Annett from Boise State. They will join high school signees Rocco Marriott and Dante Carr to compete for the starting quarterback position.
Another notable transfer player is running back Duke Watson from Louisville, who was recruited by Mossbrucker during his time at the school. Mossbrucker has a lot of confidence in Watson’s talent and is looking forward to seeing him on the field.
Frost and Mossbrucker are excited to see how these new additions will mesh with the existing players on the roster. With UCF’s move to the Big 12 Conference on the horizon, building a strong team is crucial for their success.
Despite the focus on transfer acquisitions, Frost and Mossbrucker emphasize the importance of high school recruiting and building a strong foundation for the team. They also mention the challenges of negotiating with agents and the importance of finding agents who have the best interests of the players in mind.
