TALLAHASSEE — After 35 years in the coaching world, Florida State offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn has announced his retirement. The 60-year-old spent last season with the Seminoles, following stints as head coach at UCF, Auburn, and Arkansas State. Malzahn also won a national championship as an offensive coordinator at Auburn in 2010.
In a statement, Malzahn expressed his gratitude for his time in coaching and shared his excitement for the next chapter of his life. He is looking forward to spending more time with his family.
Coach Mike Norvell has promoted co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach Tim Harris Jr. to fill Malzahn’s role as the Seminoles’ offensive coordinator. Harris previously helped lead the team to the top spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference for total offense and rushing offense in 2025. The Seminoles also had nine games with over 400 yards and back-to-back games with over 700 yards for the first time in school history.
Norvell thanked Malzahn for his contributions to the program and praised his work as the team’s offensive coordinator and playcaller in 2025. He is confident that Harris and the returning assistant coaches will continue to build on the strong foundation that Malzahn has set for the team.
