Rattlers Find Their AD.
FAMU has introduced Tiffani-Dawn Sykes, as the Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Before arriving in Tallahassee, Mrs. Sykes served as an Athletic Director at Dartmouth College, in Hanover, New Hampshire. Upon word of her historic hiring, FAMU’s first woman Athletic Director issued this statement:
I’m honored to have been chosen to lead one of the nation’s most historic athletic programs.
With this being the 50th anniversary of Title IX, I recognize the significance of my joining the FAMU family in this role.
I look forward to working with all of the Rattlers in continuing the outstanding legacy that resides on the ‘Highest of Seven Hills.’
Scales and Compliance
In the months leading up to this announcement, questions have abounded in Tallahassee.
Arguably, the most important tool in the new AD’s bag is her years managing compliance for Grambling. Since Kortne Gosha’s sudden resignation in May, FAMU’s most visible department has consistently been in the headlines for terrible, compliance-related reasons. While AD Sykes’ FAMU tenure officially starts in January, she has pledged to make herself available to her new school throughout the transition process.
FAMU Athletics has gained a wealth of knowledge, and experience in their new leader. Which is important, because the Rattlers have a buffet of controversy that need to addressed, expeditiously.
