The 2024 Spring Game was a big success, as Friday night’s extravaganza at FBC Mortgage Stadium pitting the UCF Knights versus the ‘Nauts gave fans a first glimpse at the team’s roster and a slew of new plays ahead of the UCF Football team’s second year in the Big 12.
Despite the absence of wide receiver Kobe Hudson and running back RJ Harvey from the game, KJ Jefferson, a high-profile transfer from Arkansas, shone as the team’s new quarterback.
Good as Advertised: Jefferson completed 12 of 22 throws for 271 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. His 71-yard touchdown pass to Jarrad Baker was easily the best play of the game, displaying his rocket arm and ability to read the defense.

Star of the Show: With Hudson unable to participate in the Spring Game, Baker took the bull by the horn and delivered a promising performance with three receptions for 88 yards.

Chemistry Issue: With six catches for 100 yards, wide receiver Xavier Townsend also made a solid impact in the game. Townsend, on the other hand, might need more practice time with Jefferson because the two of them don’t seem to sync in well in the red zone.
KJ Jefferson threw an interception this time it is his fault on an intended fade for Xavier Townsend.

McClain Upside: Timmy McClain, the projected backup quarterback to Jefferson this coming season, served as the field general for the Knights, showcasing his potential as a passer and rusher.

Promising Defense: Fans expect improvement on their defense the moment the UCF brought Ted Roof as the new defensive coordinator. Roof’s impact was evident in the Spring Game as the ‘Nauts recorded nine sacks and 14 tackles for loss.
